MDDance

MDDance is the foundation led by Monique Duurvoort, dedicated to increasing the visibility of multicultural identities within Dutch (performing) arts. The foundation does this by developing its own productions in the fields of dance, movement, video/film, installation art and more.

MDDance serves as the home base for Monique Duurvoort's work and is the platform from which her new projects are initiated and developed. In addition, the foundation facilitates the realisation of her work by acquiring and managing financial, organisational and practical resources, and creates space for knowledge-sharing and exchange, with special attention to multicultural perspectives within the professional arts circuit.

Mission

MDDance is committed to the development, production and presentation of professional contemporary art projects in the Netherlands and abroad — dance, choreography, performance, movement, installation art, film and other multi- and interdisciplinary forms — thereby contributing to greater visibility of multicultural identities and perspectives within the Dutch arts.

Vision

MDDance initiates artistic and substantive research into the body, identity, history and memory, with particular attention to the trans-Atlantic history of slavery and its continuing impact on contemporary social, cultural and personal contexts. Through audience-facing presentations, the foundation brings underexposed and multi-voiced perspectives into view, and stimulates cultural participation, knowledge-sharing and education.

Monique Duurvoort

Monique Duurvoort is an independent interdisciplinary artist with roots in Amsterdam, Friesland and Suriname.

Her work moves at the intersection of dance, choreography, film and installation art, and explores heritage, identity and the postcolonial past. Monique trained at the Theaterschool in Amsterdam and subsequently danced for thirteen years with Het Nationale Ballet (Dutch National Ballet). As a choreographer she is known for a movement vocabulary in which academic and hip-hop dance styles come together.

Her work is housed under the MDDance foundation.
